Terms of sale and use
These terms are the agreement between you and Elision Web Solutions, 275 Main St, Webster, MA 01570, USA when you buy or use Readhum. We’ve kept them as plain as we can. By buying or using Readhum you accept them.
1. Your license
When you buy Readhum you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it. One license is for one person, on up to 3 browsers at a time. You can move it between computers by removing an old browser in your account.
2. What your purchase includes
- Every Readhum feature available on the day you buy.
- Every new feature released in the 12 months after you buy (your “update period”).
- Bug and security fixes, for as long as we offer Readhum.
After your update period, everything you already have keeps working. Features released later stay locked unless you renew, which is optional and currently costs $19 a year. Chrome installs extension updates automatically, so you’ll still receive new versions of the extension; locked features simply stay locked.
3. Buying
Readhum is sold through Polar (polar.sh), which acts as our reseller and merchant of record: Polar processes your payment, handles sales tax and appears on your receipt. Polar’s own terms apply to the payment. Prices are shown at checkout; if we change our prices later, that doesn’t affect what you’ve already bought.
4. Refunds
You can get a full refund within 14 days of buying. See our refund policy. Once a purchase is refunded, its license stops working.
5. Voice services
Readhum doesn’t include voices of its own. It reads with the voices built into your browser or operating system, or with a voice service you set up yourself, such as a Kokoro or VoiceStudio server you run or your own ElevenLabs account. Your use of those services is between you and their provider: you’re responsible for your accounts, API keys, any charges they make, and following their terms. We aren’t responsible for their availability or for what they do with the text you send them.
6. Fair use
Please don’t:
- share, sell or publish your license key, or let others use it;
- try to get around the license checks or unlock features you haven’t got;
- copy, resell or redistribute Readhum, except where the law allows it;
- use Readhum to break the law or other people’s rights, for example by publishing audio of content you don’t have permission to share.
If a license is clearly being misused we may deactivate it. We’ll email you first and give you a chance to explain, unless the misuse is serious or ongoing.
7. Your content
You keep all rights to what you read and listen to. We never receive it; see our privacy policy.
8. Your account
Keep your password safe and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using your account. You can delete your account at any time.
9. Working offline and changes
Readhum checks your license about once a day and keeps working offline for about two weeks between checks. We improve Readhum over time and may change or remove features, but we won’t take away features you’ve paid for without giving you a fair alternative or a refund.
10. No warranty
We work hard to make Readhum reliable, but it’s provided “as is”, without warranties beyond those the law requires. Text-to-speech can mispronounce words or skip text, so don’t rely on it where mistakes could cause harm. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can’t be limited by agreement.
11. Liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim about Readhum is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses. We don’t exclude liability that can’t legally be excluded, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
12. Ending this agreement
You can stop using Readhum at any time. We may end your license if you seriously break these terms, as set out in section 6. Sections 5, 10, 11 and 13 continue to apply afterwards.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA. If you’re a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and can bring claims there. Please contact us first at [email protected]; most problems can be sorted out by email. For business and publisher enquiries, email [email protected].
14. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we’ll update the date at the top and email customers about important changes before they take effect. The terms in force when you bought apply to that purchase.
